RANSOMVILLE, NY_
Better than 150 cars came to play at Ransomville Speedway
last Saturday night as the Niagara County oval bid farewell
to the 2008 season with SUPER SATURDAY providing a lot of
exciting racing on the speedy half mile race track. Investor
Services and Wendt's Propane were the sponsors for the
night's program.
The King of the
Hill 100 for the Street Stocks was the headlining program
for SUPER SATURDAY. Twenty Nine cars took to the track in
the 15th annual running of the popular event. When it was
all said and done, Jaren Israel took home the win and the
biggest victory of his career.
Israel took
the lead on lap 90 and held off the hard charging efforts of
Dave Conant Finishing third was Wayne Close, who led from
the start of the main until lap 90 when Israel took over.
You could
tell that the race was going to be a good one. Following the
lap 50 break, Close and Conant began a battle for the front
running position. Israel came along for the ride and watched
much of the activity from his third place spot. On lap 65,
Conant came down low off turn four and right beside Close
challenging for the lead. Close held onto the spot with
close holding onto the lead, both Conant and Israel changed
positions for second.
Before the
yellow came out on lap 78, Israel went into the runnerup
position. Israel began challenging for the lead once again
with Conant right three looking for opportunity to pass both
Close and Israel.
Coming down
the front stretch on lap 90, Close and Israel were side by
side with both drivers using it's side panels to get the
edge going into turn one. The termonology of rubbing is
racing was quite evident as both went down the front stretch
side by side. Israel was the leader as the pair hit turn one
and he was never headed.
For the final
ten laps, both Conant and Close never quit in trying to
catch Israel. Conant would take home second while Close
would be home in third. Rounding out the top five was Brian
Lonneville and Scott Krull.
Webb
Nashwiner was running well until he hit the wall between
turns one and two on lap 80. Pat Dell also had a nice run at
the beginning but fell back as the race went on.
The King of
the Hill started all 29 cars in what turned out to be a
nailbiter at the end.
Heat winners
were Patrick Dell, Conant and Chris Burek.

In the 25 lap
Original Pizza Logs Crate Sportsman feature, rookie driver
Ryan Susice won his second feature of the 2008 season,
leading the entire distance. Susice started on the pole
position and had pressure on several occasions from 2007
Ransomville Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman champion Don
Spatorico. Susice was using the outside lane all night long
and endured several caution periods which allowed Spatorico
to sneak up behind Susice on the restarts.
Susice had to
wait through a caution on lap 24. He was, however, able to
keep Spatorico behind him at the start/finish line. Third
was Brad Rouse followed by Jipp Ortiz and Jesse Cottriss.
Investors
Services, a sponsor on Ryan Susice race car, met Ryan in
victory lane.
The heat
races winners were Susice and Spatorico.

In the 2 BBL
Challenge, Jeff McGinnis was the winner of the 25 lap event.
McGinnis won by a large margin over second place finisher
Mike Short. Third was Steve Schumacher followed by Ryan
Susice and Kevin Wills. Susice led the first half of the
event before Short made his move. McGinnis was gone once he
took the lead on lap 15. McGinnis was driving for car owner
Bob Broomfield.
Heat race
finishers in the two BBL Challenge were Dave Just and Steve
Schumacher.

In the
Mini/Truck 15 lap feature, Rob Goulding led the entire
distance holding off the advances of Abel Castelein
throughout the last half of the race. Casteline was second
followed by Jason Hull in third. Rounding out the top five
were Dave Small and Don Lessard.

Lessard was
given the win in the truck portion of the feature. Lessard
was the best finishing truck in the 15 lap main
Goulding also
won the qualifying heat

In the Bobcat

with Ransomville Fire Hall representative Jim Stone given

by tracks officials of jumping a restart. Stone also took
the Bobcat of Buffalo Firemans Enduro season championship.
