Ransomville Speedway Profile: The Bills Family

Most times, people get into racing through family. I decided I wanted to take a closer look into a family who every member shares the same passion. The Bills family makes their every week appearance at the Little R. This family, consisting of Steve Bills, Tanya Bills, Brayden Bills, and Connor Bills, has their lives revolving around go karts. You wouldn’t believe go karts could take so much, but with now two respectful boys racing, they say “Dedication in this house is huge. As parents, we work on the karts every single night and weekends. We have to get all of our outside work done before race season starts because all of our extra time is working on the karts.” These Ransomville natives have racing in their blood since the dad (Steve) used to race go karts 25 years ago and the mom (Tanya) has always been a “huge dirt race fan”. They thought it would be a great idea to see if Brayden enjoyed it and how he did. They haven’t stopped since. Tanya says, “he’s (Brayden) made it something for all of us to enjoy watching.”

11 year old Brayden was a strong competitor last season in the Junior 2 Division. With five wins, he actually won the championship! His parents say, “the points were so close all season but he kept his head high and drove like he knows how to drive, clean and persistent.” For this season, Brayden’s goals are to try his hardest as he is moving up to the Junior 3 Division. His parents are working to teach him to be mindful of other drivers and their equipment. We wish Brayden the best of luck as he moves up to a higher division.

This year, 6 year old Connor will be making his go kart debut. After playing in the pits and watching his brother race, his parents decided they would give him a shot to see how he will do. He will be competing in the Novice Division and his goals are to learn how to drive competitively.

Of course the boys love everything about the Ransomville Speedway go kart program! The parents respect the continued updates to the drivers safety every year as well as the continued updates to go kart protocols. They also love to see all the friendships that the boys, and themselves, have made over the years. When asked what they think about the competition in the go kart program, they say “Competition last year was tough in the Junior 2 Class, but Brayden was able to overcome it. Competition is only going to get harder so we’re excited to see what he can do this season.”

What ice cream flavor would you be and why?

What is the most memorable moment as a driver/parent?

"Brayden’s first time in a Go Kart, his first win and of course his first championship and now we are excited to watch Connor grow as a little racer himself.” -Tanya and Steve Bills

How did the boys pick their racing numbers?

We are pretty big NASCAR fans and Earnhardt fans. Brayden started with the 01 (Dukes of Hazzard) in the Novice division for his first season, then he became a huge fan of Erick Rudolph so he decided to take on the #25 Rudolph number, then he decided he wanted to change it up again and be the #3 Earnhardt number. This has been his number ever since. Connor’s number was decided based on him wanting to have a red body so we thought that having another Earnhardt number in the family would be best, so Connor this year will be the #8.”
