Liam Martin Wins Southern Ontario Sprints Return to Ransomville

RANSOMVILLE, NY (August 18, 2023) “Livewire” Liam Martin from Binbrook, Ontario won the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS)’s return to the Ransomville Speedway on Friday night as Parco Building Systems, Clark Rigging & Rental, and Beyer Trucking presented the racing action. Gary Lindberg from Ridgeway, Ontario won his second Krown Undercoating Modified feature of the season. Brandon Sherwood from Sanborn, NY picked up the victory in the KiPo Motors Street Stocks. Chris Leone from Lewiston, NY won the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stock feature event. Jim Forster from Niagara Falls, NY picked up the victory in the Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman.

Liam Martin and Dylan Westbrook were on the front row for the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS)’s WNY Sprint Car Founders Night feature honoring Dave MacLeod, and it was Westbrook taking the lead. Darren Dryden would spin in turn two to bring out the race’s first caution. On the restart, Westbrook would take off, ahead of Liam Martin, Matt Farnham, Josh Hansen, and Kyle Phillips. Farnham and Martin would battle for second for several laps. Tyeller Powless flipped heavily in turn one to bring out the red flag on lap 11. Powless climbed out of his car under his own power. Westbrook would reassume command of the field on the restart, but the caution flag would come back out as Josh Hansen hit the turn four wall. Westbrook would once again take off with lead following the restart, as Matt Farnham would take second away from Liam Martin on lap 13, as Mitch Brown raced in fourth place. Farnham would hit the turn two wall to bring out the caution on lap 18. Mitch Brown would take second away from Martin on lap 20, with Westbrook in control of the field. Westbrook’s lead would come to a stop in turn one to bring out the caution on lap 23. The restart would see Mitch Brown in the lead ahead of Liam Martin, DJ Christie, and Ryan Turner. Liam Martin would take the lead on lap 26 and would never relinquish it as Martin would win his first race on American soil.

Dalton Slack and Andrew Smith were on the front row for the Krown Undercoating Modifieds feature event, with Smith taking the lead with Gary Lindberg quickly taking over second place. Chad Brachmann would pass Slack to move into third place, with Scott Kerwin racing in fifth, ahead of Steve Lewis Jr and Mat Williamson. Williamson would battle with Lewis for several laps for sixth place, with Williamson completing the pass on lap 15. Lindberg would start to reel in Smith for the lead, and Lindberg would complete the pass on lap 15. The first caution of the event would come out on lap 17, as Steve Lewis Jr came to a stop in turn four. The restart would see Lindberg back out in front, as Chad Brachmann took over second, with Smith, Williamson, and Kerwin racing in the top five. Dalton Slack would hit the turn one wall and would pull it into the pits, as Slack was racing in the top five for most of the feature event. The lap 19 restart would see Lindberg and Brachmann on the front row, with Lindberg in the lead, with Williamson moving into third place. Lindberg would pull away from the field to score his second win of the season.

The KiPo Motors Street Stocks feature was led to the green flag by Ken Camidge and Mike Welch, with the front row making contact, sending Camidge to the pit area for repairs. The ensuing restart would see Brandon Sherwood and Chris Dziomba on the front row, with Sherwood taking the lead. With Sherwood out front, Dziomba was holding off Joe Dyrbala and Mike Welch for the battle for second place for several laps. Joey Zimmerman spun in turn one while running in fifth place to bring out the caution on lap 10. On the restart, Sherwood would pull away from the field and would go on to score the feature win.

Ian Paul and Chris Leone were on the front row for the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks feature event, with Leone showing the way over Paul, Cole Susice, Ryan Plante, and Matt Hornquist racing in the top five. Ian Paul and Matt Hornquist made contact, with Hornquist hitting the turn four on lap eight to bring out the caution. On the restart, Leone and Susice would battle for the lead, with Leone being able to hold off Susice to score the feature win.

Cameron Rowlands and Jim Forster brought the Kevin’s Carpet Cleaning Novice Sportsman to the green flag for their feature event, with Rowlands in the lead. Doug Castile hit and cleared the turn one wall to bring out the red flag. Doug was able to climb out of his car under his own power. The restart would see Forster leading DJ Rosinski, and Mike Kramarz. Kramarz would take second away on lap eight and would go after Forster for the lead. Forster would hold off Kramarz to score the feature win.

Ransomville Speedway is back in action on Tuesday, August 22 for the Ron Martin Memorial Summer Nationals for the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series and the 3rd Annual Mike Bonesky Memorial for the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series. Pit gates will open at 4pm, with grandstands opening at 5pm, and racing will get underway at 7:15pm. The Summer Nationals will be streamed live and exclusively on DIRTVision.
